The only major(ish) injury I've ever had is a fractured skull at roughly 1 year old, apart from that Lady Luck has smiled on me. That maybe explains my general :o look!

I've been a Titanic fanatic since I was six. A friend of mine and I are going to an exhibit tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. I've see it before and loved it. There are recreations of key areas (like the Grand Staircase shown below) and part of the ship's hull that you can touch. I can't wait!

Since there is so much interest in the Titanic, I thought I'd report back to you all.

The exhibit is amazing in the type of items that survived the wreck, the two and half mile descent into the deep cold ocean and the resulting 6000 pounds-per-square-inch of pressure at the bottom; Delicate First Class porcelain plates survived without a nick, elegant vases, leaded glass windows, someone's tiny spectacles, paper money, shoes, sheet music, water stained journals, a 30,000-pound piece of the hull (complete with rivets and port holes), corked bottles with champagne in it, and a perfume salesman's sample case containing sealed vials of sweetly aromatic perfume.

Another interesting display is an ice wall that you are encouraged to touch as long as possible. Due to high salt content, sea water can remain liquid at subfreezing temperatures. The ice wall is to demonstrate how cold the ocean water felt to the thousand people who survived the actual sinking, but froze to death in the 31 degrees F/-0.56 degrees C water after just a few minutes. Few people can hold their hand to the wall as long as 30 seconds.

All in all, it was pretty awesome and I'm ready to submerse myself in Titanic lore again. (Erm, probably not my best choice of verbs, considering.)

The exhibit has traveled to various countries, so be on the watch for it. It's well worth your time if you are interested in the Titanic on any level.
