Because the Newsletters Updates thread is just updates, no-one other than Lonna can post in it, I thought I'd set up discussion topic of them.

When Lonna first mentioned she still had them, I really wanted to see/read them, so asked if she ever thought about archiving them online.

I have enjoyed the first two, they're a snapshot in time and a good piece of history. Loved the fact that Simon's mum was a member, how cool is that. It also made me realise I was born to late and missed out on so much, will post more after I've had a re-read.

So what were you thoughts?

(On a side note I saw a catering van this morning with Simply Simon printed on the side, I was grining the rest of the way to work! :) )

The newsletters are a really good insight into what it was like during that time of Simon's career, I loved the bit about how he learned to horseride.

The message where he says "my love goes out to you" and "we're in this together" is so sweet, it shows the appreciation and time he has for his fans which is lovely.

I'm feeling old now, I wasn't born too late.

Thanks to you guys for reading our "piece of history" which are the Simply Simon newsletters. I'm really enjoying your comments and I'm also enjoying rereading the newsletters all these years later, as I post them. This also brings back some really nice memories of those years, my meetings with Simon and our fun fan gatherings. Keep the comments coming!

Lonna

After I scanned and posted Issue 3 yesterday I went back to read it again today. Violet and I are having a lot of fun rereading these after all these years. We were commenting on the finishing up of the limerick in Falcon's Gold (Robbers of the Sacred Mountain). Some of us got quite silly.

Another funny thing we laughed about was Simon's comment that he fell "base over apex". We'd never heard that expression before and thought it was extremely cute.

I laughed at that too, but I can't imagine him saying ass over tit, tho head over heals would have worked. Next time I use that phrase I'm gonna use 'base over apex' might make me sound intelligent!

Hi there,

I am new to the forum. I really enjoyed watching Counterstrike when it was on in the US years ago.

Are there any mentions of the show in your newsletters? If so, which ones...I have yet to read all the newsletters you have posted.

Elizabeth

Hi and Welcome, haven't read anything about Counterstrike in them yet but then the ones online so far are 83-84 but I'm fairly sure there will be Counterstrike mentioned at somepoint

Our last club newsletter was in 1991 with a long interview about Counterstrike. It was 12 pages long! (Issue 26). As I've just started publishing the early issues it might be awhile before we get to number 26. :D

In one of the newletters his accidental stunt in Jaws 3 is mentioned. When wathing it, it looks planned, it happens so quick but when you slow it down it looks a bit painful and definatly not planned

I have to make a correction to this. It seems I was missing at least 3 newsletter issues during the final years of the club. (We have moved around a bit and I've lost some of my archived items.) One of my members has kindly agreed to mail them to me so I will have the full collection. So when the time comes to scan these issues I will have the complete set!

^^ YES.

Did I read in one of them that Simon came up with his signature in a Maths class?? Least I know I'm not the only one who spent Maths class doodling in the back of my books!

Just watched the clip, ouch.

Maths, I doodle all over the front of my book and not once has my teacher told me to stop or do some actual work, I worked out a font for my graphics coursework whilst doodling! :)

Ok little confused (doesn't take a lot) was the Fan Club called Simply Simon with the Newletters called Simon Says?
