I've seen "Straw Dogs" a couple of times, it was banned in the UK for many years, it's a strange film but well worth watching.

I've seen that film but I've never understood the ending, even watching it a few times over the years I still am baffled unsure.gif

I never heard of that film Straw Dogs.
Why was it banned in the UK for many years?

Technically, we could describe Simon as Susan's toy boy because she is 18 months older than he is. Susan's d.o.b is 16.07.50 and Simon's is 12.02.52.

Do you reckon he'd like that description?

Toy Boy? Mm, I don't think he would like it if somebody says that to him.
I think he feels the same about the age thing like us. And 2 years is nothing.

Well, he's the younger out them both. I'll use that as the basis for my arguement however weak the reason. On the whole in the majority of relationships, the guy is usually older. He was over 4 & a half years older than his 1st wife.

Simon and Susan still look a lovely couple - in the overall scale of things, age is irrelevant (within reason) whoever the couple. Going by mazagine photographs and interviews, they do appreciate their limited quality time together. Simon being located in Bristol for 5/6 days a week maybe makes their hearts grow fonder. Ah, bless their romantic little hearts!

It was banned because of the rape scene.

I know we're talking about a generation gap but Jodie Foster's The Accused wasn't banned in 1988, it just goes to show how times change.

Surely in the 70's there was the 18 classifications and media & press pre warnings about the content of a film.

I think that there's a bit more to it than 'just a rape' scene but it's not 100% approprite for here

Not having seen Straw Dogs, I can't comment on it but I didn't in any shape or form describe it as 'only' a rape film. That would be totally disrespectful to those unfortunate and innocent victims of that hideous crime. I'm just curious to the reasons why it was banned from the UK and The Accused wasn't excluding the different era explanation.

Actresses/actors who play those roles deserve great credit for their interpretation of the victim and the background work they have to do. I'm sure Susan George performance in that movie was amazing, did she receive any recognition award wise? Does anyone else recall any other roles she played?

That's not quite what I meant when I said 'just a rape scene,' I meant there was apperently another aspect of it which meant it was banned (I'm also gonna stop digging myself into a hole)

The full reasons it was banned can not and will not be posted on here, as this site is accessed by people of all ages, it would be inappropriate to allow it.

With the reasons now explained to me and fully understood, I acknowledge why an indepth description can't and won't be posted here. It's only right and proper that this is the case.

I must admit to not having read all the newsletters about Simon but I'm interested in knowing how and where he met Susan. Things like how they knew they were right for one another etc.

I've just came across a fairly recent article stating the Susan George has been awarded an honorary doctorate in civil law from Newcastle University for her anti poverty work. Not only is she a successful actress and wife, she has the enthusiasm and energy to make a significant contribution to helping those less fortunate in society. We also mustn't ignore the time she has to spend ensuring the stud farm remains successful.

(Edit shelli: this is actually about another Susan George!)
