What are you doing to the kids knocking on the door? We're just not answering it tonight

I'm with you, the door bell was ignored on the single occasion that it's rang. If I could guarantee it was young kids I would make the effort to answer but more often than not, it's teenagers. Most probably after £s for their illegally bought carry out - cynical or what?

Halloween is not that well known over here. The commercial period around it gets bigger every year but so far no children are going from door to door in our town.
Over here it is common for the children to go singing from door to door the day before New Year.
They are singing songs at the doors to wish everyone a happy new year. In change they get some money. It are only children until the age of 12 or max 13. No older once.

Trouble is it's a week of noise now, after the trick or treaters we're gonna have at least a week of fire works! There's quite a lot going off tonight as it is!

I don't think that many people actually know what Guy Fawkes night is about, it's just an excuse for people to blast expensive fireworks into the sky. The guy died 401 years ago so it baffles me why so much fuss is created over him - time to move on I think! It's the same with the July 12th 'celebrations' - 317 years on and still havoc is the order of the day.

As you can probably tell, I'm not one for hovering in the long and very distant past. Live for now I say.

July 12th revolves around the orange walk parades in Northern Ireland and is a 'hot point' in the West of Scotland also. King Billy and Catholic v Protestant and all that confrontational shite!

Here in Glasgow, I don't get what a Dutchman in NI over 300 years ago has got to do with us in the 21st century.

We never answer the door, last year we had a sign on the window which the police gave out saying 'No Trick or Treat, I won't open the door' but we couldn't remember where we put it for this year. We only had one knock and Max soon scared them off, so that god.

I'm of the thinking that you spend years telling kids not to talk to strangers and then for one night, parents tell the kids to go knocking on strangers doors seeking rewards and half the time they are not accompanied by an adult, so it's a bit of a contradiction I think.
Besides it's mainly an American thing really and not being one I don't see the point.
"Taking from Irish and English traditions, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today's "trick-or-treat" tradition."

I know lots of people who'd ARGUE with their own shadow instead of being frightened by it, the same kinda people who'd start an arguement in an empty room!

I'm looking forward to more Christmas shopping on Saturday afternoon, what's everyone else up to?
