I have never experienced such rawness of emotion and energy palpable in the room that night, as guest readers shared love letters written through time, personal and otherwise, reflecting grief, passion, belief, fear, anger, sorrow, gratefulness and kindness beyond. The evening was all about true love, one path one journey and what love means to each and every one of us and on this occasion the message was in support of “Lasting Life the Simon MacCorkindale Legacy”
Planning this night and the launch of “Lasting Life Love Letters” in the United Kingdom, as anyone would know was a far-reaching climb and at the top to exceed all expectations, meant everything.
My thanks to all those who helped along the way to make this vision a reality, it’s just the beginning of a plan for future fundraising that I believe will travel the world over.
AS SHE EMBRACES A BRIGHT NEW FUTURE SUSAN GEORGE OPENS HER HEART ABOUT MOVING ON AND THE EXCITING CHANGES IN HER LIFE
Looking every inch the lady of the manor as she poses against the historic backdrop of Maunsel House, a stunning medieval mansion in Somerset, time seems to have stood still for the ever youthful Susan George.
Yet the actress is experiencing monumental changes in her personal and professional life right now -changes she talks about for the first time in this exclusive interview with HELLO!.
“I’ve turned a massive corner,” she says. “I feel incredibly excited, which I never thought I’d feel again. There’s so much more to do in my lifetime and still so much to fulfill.”
HOME SWEET HOME
Not only is Susan embracing a renaissance in her film and TV career, preparing for a one-woman stage show and completing her candid autobiography, but she is also considering a move from the wilds of Exmoor and parting with many of her Georgian Arabian horses, part of the equestrian breeding enterprise she has devoted more than two decades to.
It is all, she says, exactly what her husband, actor Simon MacCorkindale, who died of cancer at 58 in 2010, would have wanted.
Last night I was honoured to be invited to the charity dinner to celebrate the launch of Lasting Life The Simon MacCorkindale Legacy. Although I was somewhat nervous, everyone was there to celebrate Simon, raise awareness for the charity and to look to the future. It’s always good to hear lot of wonderful things about Simon, he touched many lives in different ways.
The night was rather emotional, but you could feel the love in the room for Simon and Susan as well. There was also lots of fun and some singing and dancing. It was very well organised and perfect way to celebrate the start of this new adventure.
We were given a pebble with a carved heart representing the stacked pebbles in the Lasting Life logo.
For me personally it was the best possible way to start off our year of Simon. My year just started a day early.
On Valentine’s Day international actress and horse breeder Susan George is launching the charity so close to her heart. Susan lost her beloved husband 5 years ago to cancer and Lasting Life the Simon MacCorkindale Legacy will aim to fundraise for cancer, specific needs and RAFT a 25 year established organisation pioneering medical research and changing the lives of many. Susan’s said today “The words on the homepage of the website alongside a photograph of pebbles on a beach each one holding up another, are a symbol of and what is needed in crisis times and what Simon would wish me to do in his name.”
International actress, photographer and champion Arabian horse breeder, Susan George is launching a new charity fund in honour of her late husband, Simon MacCorkindale, who died from cancer in 2010.
It has long been Susan’s dream to establish ‘Lasting Life – the Simon MacCorkindale Legacy’, a collaboration with award winning charity, RAFT (Restoration of Function and Appearance Trust) a charity which provides ground-breaking treatments for people who’ve suffered severe burns or life-changing limb loss, birth defects or serious illnesses such as cancer or bone disease.
Lasting Life officially launched on Valentine’s Day, Sunday 14th February 2016. A celebration launch event will take place on Saturday 16th April at Maunsel House in Somerset, the historic estate of Sir Benjamin Slade.
After hearing so many wonderful things about Simon the other day, and the fact I’ve been meaning to write something like this down for a while, I figure it’s now or never.
A few words about Simon: ‘Passionate, Eternal Optimist, Driven Achiever’.
These are the words Simon choose to describe himself in our ‘Meet a Member‘ questions a few years ago. I don’t think I know anyone who would disagree with any of these words.
For me Simon always came across as a decent guy, kind and caring and it was these characteristics that made me a fan of Simon and his work, the fact he was damned good looking was an added bonus.
I’ve always believed you can tell a lot about a person about what others think of them or what they think of others. I remember talking to Simon in a theater and there was an old man with severe hunch behind me, Simon suddenly said ‘oh my god that poor man’, I’d never seen anyone look so concerned and it was for someone he didn’t even know. I also never heard Simon say a bad word about anyone.
From a fans viewpoint Simon is an excellent role model, honest, hard-working and happily married for over 20 years. Mimicking is the highest form of adoration and if more people were like Simon then the world would be a better place for everyone.
I always felt I knew a different Simon to his friends and family, I felt I only really knew the guy off the telly (Harry, Peter, Jonathan, Greg) although there were times where you could see Simon himself in interviews and in person. Even if it was just a minute Simon tried to give time to his fans, by having photo’s taken, signing autographs or just by talking with a fan. He always had a way of making you feel relaxed and he would try to talk to everyone waiting for him outside a stage door and make them feel important.
I miss Simon, but in someway I know that part of the person I knew I can never forget as all I have to do it dig out a DVD and there he is, smiling, laughing and joking. I also know that in decades from now probably around Christmas or Easter I’ll turn on a TV and there will be a 25 year old Simon on my TV in Death on the Nile and all the memories, if they’re not still at the front of my mind, will come pouring back. I don’t think I’ll ever be a fan of anyone the same way I am of Simon, he is someone I’ll never ever forgot, and I’m glad I got a chance to know him.
TRIBUTES were paid to the “shining light and life” of Simon MacCorkindale yesterday as 200 friends attended a memorial service in London.
The actor’s widow, actress Susan George, 63, said of her husband of 28 years: “He was the love of my life. He was my rock.”
A memorial for Simon was held today at the Actors Church, St Paul’s in Covent Gardens. I was honoured to be invited and able to attend to represent Simon’s fans.
It was a very moving service with everyone in agreement at how approachable, kind, caring, hard-working and passionate Simon was and how he adored Susan.
I’ve had a number of people ask about Simon’s funeral, I can give the following information:
There will be a private service, for family and friends only in the very near future.
There will also be a memorial at a later date (possibly later this year, but could be in the new year) which we can do something for, most probably flowers.
I’ll let everyone know further details as soon as I am aware of them
Edit 15th January 2011: As of yet, nothing has been arranged
The new series of New Tricks is due to air in September.
Looking at Digiguide the first episode will air 10th September, as Simon said his was the second episode so it should air on the 17th September 2010, unless they’ve changed the running order.
We all know Simon can’t sit still for too long so I have pleasure in confirming that next week Simon will start filming for a one off episode of New Tricks:

Doing an episode of New Tricks tho’ starting next week. 2nd Episode of new season. No idea of transmission date
It will be a few months away at least, but we will see Simon again on our screens shortly
Simon and Susan speak with the News of the World and Daily Mail about his brave continuing battle with cancer. Beautifully dignified interviews about this three year struggle. Brilliant man describing his inspirational journey over the past three years.
A message of support has already been sent to Simon from the site. We obviously will continue sending our devoted love and support to both Simon & Susan for the future & believe one hundred percent he will get through this.
They are both in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
This interview was carried out with Simon on the 10th February at the London Palladium. There is a video message that was filmed at the same time and audio can be found on the forum – in Simon’s Secret Society. This is Simon in his own words (i.e. typed word for word what he said)
001 – What’s next
I really don’t know is the answer. I’m doing a couple of things, there are a number of things being talked about, but nothing that’s absolutely carved in granite. I’m gonna do another day on another movie, literally next week, for a friend, the same sort of set up as that other one, who’s title I think is the one you saw.
I’ve had a number of emails about this from members from this site saying ‘Simon MacCorkindale’ has added them as a friend on Facebook. I already knew if it was true or not, however I did ask Simon the question. (I think a lot of members also knew the answer too)
Simon MacCorkindale wrote:
No I am not on facebook or any other site other than your official site and the few other unofficial ones that I have no contact with.
I was impressed by that response – I was expecting ‘What’s Facebook?’
Suffice to say I expect the ‘Susan George’ one to be the same.
Simon is not connected with any Facebook profile or group

I did one scene as a literary agent for mates who were producing it – it stars Tom Conti and Daryl Hannah with several cameos – this was a nice bit of fun – script is good.
